I got this stuff for free. Kevin and Carol Knox, the brewers, sent it to me with some Sparky's stickers, a press release, and a newspaper article (which can be seen on their web site).

Medium dark with a small head that lasts surprisingly long. A complex taste that is surprisingly smooth...ahh, the joys of cane sugar. Wicked heavy on the wintergreen. At least that's what I thought at first. A visit to their web site set me straight. This brew is made with birch root which is the same chemical as wintergreen (more on that). It's creamy but has really has a wintergreen flavor that lingers...my tongue is still tingling and I finished the bottle 20 minutes ago. I was afraid this was going to happen...free root beer I didn't like. I just don't care for that wintergreen note, especially one so heavy. But just because I don't like it doesn't be you won't (consider the IBC mail I get), so I suggest you visit Sparky's web site (link above) and order some. It's good to support the small handcrafted root beers brewers and it seems the Knox family really cares about their craft. As for the root beer, I hate to do it but I have to say... D+.

I wonder what "velvet carbonation" means...is the process is somehow related to Mel Tormé?
