- Manufacturer:
- Bottled under the authority of Jones Soda Co., 234 Ninth Avenue North,
Seattle, WA 98109
- The Pitch:
- Ya gotta make a living somehow; we chose the beverage world. Good
old soda made with pure cane sugar. No hidden meanings, no billion dollar
ad campaigns, and no high fructose corn syrup. At Jones, we want you
to buy a lot of soda and recycle the bottles. The labels are kind of
like our minds - always changing. Run with the little guy...create some
change. www.jonessoda.com
- The Ingredients:
- Carbonated water, inverted cane sugar, natural and artificial flavors,
caramel color, phosphoric acid, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate
(as preservatives).
- Spike says:
- At least it looks like root beer. It pours up
real purty, nice head that shows its form and then dissipates, clearing
out for drinking. The color is nice and dark. I have high hopes for
this root beer as I'm partial to the funky taste of pure cane sugar.
How sad is that? High fructose corn syrup is normal and pure cane sugar
is "funky"?
-
- But is the sweetener "pure cane sugar"? The label reads
"inverted cane sugar", which near as I can tell started off
life as pure cane sugar but got tweaked by man along the way (so says
Wikipedia
and that's never wrong). Is it any better for you than high fructose
corn syrup? I guess so, since HFCS was created by Satan himself and
what could be worse than that?
-
- It's definitely sweet, slightly creamy. Despite
the invertedness of the sugar it does have a cane sugar taste, albeit
a mild one. Kind of spicy, it's got a bit of an edge to it. The more
I drink the more I wonder, "at the end of the day would I be able
to tell this apart from some regular ol' canned root beer?" Cane
sugar taste, yes. But an above average taste? Not really. I'll have
to pick some more up and have a taste-off with canned soda, but until
then I'll give it a C+
