Hansen's Creamy Root Beer

Hansen's Creamy Root Beer
American flag...nice touch. I presume it's to show patriotism and not because people think that "Hansen's" comes from Sweden, or even Minnesota.

Manufacturer:
Canned under the authority of the Hansen Beverage Company, Corona, CA 92882 U.S.A. www.hansens.com

The Pitch:
As skunky as the day is long.*

The Ingredients:
Pure triple filtered carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, caramel color, natural spices of wintergreen, birch, anise, sassafras, Tahitian vanilla extract, citric acid.

Spike says:
This must be the stuff that didn't pass muster when Hansen's made this other stuff. It looks nice, with a decent head and a reddish-brown color, but it's wintergreeny, bitter, and not creamy it all. In fact, it's on the harsh side. Of course, different people like different things so if you like an aftertaste, this one's for you. All that wintergreen (with wintergreen and birch) does have the nice side benefit of drowning out the anise. If you want Hansen's then buy their sarsaparilla instead; if you just want root beer in a can buy some A&W or other "C" level root beer. It would be an improvement over this stuff: D.

* I made that up. That's really not their slogan.
